This is our 2nd attempt at making Aircrete for the building of my Studio domes.
- ✅ foam was dialed in correctly
- ✅ measurements were exact for soap water
- ❌ something went wrong during mixing the foam into the cement
It is supposed to be the consistency of chocolate mousse. Ours was more like a runny milkshake. That said, we poured it anyway thinking this will be a good test for our form at the very least. We now know where the failure is and can concentrate our efforts there moving forward. We are learning with every attempt!
We kept an eye on it last night and it remained stable…meaning, it did not sink and/or crack! It is said that around the 8 hour mark, you can “slice” it in the form. So at midnight, that’s what we did…and it worked!
All that said, the consistency absolutely was not correct. Because of that, even if we get somewhat stable blocks out of the forms, we won’t feel comfortable using them for building the domes and will keep trying to get them right.
Tomorrow, we will open the form and see what we have in way of consistency throughout the blocks. Also, to see if the slicing worked and didn’t meld back together.
Fast forward to the next day…
It worked!!! The blocks were stable and remained cut. It looked just the same as it did the day before…so, that is a good sign that it didn’t sink and/or crack. Below, we opened the form to reveal a promising run.
This run was WAY MO BETTA than the last one…so, we are improving! Now if we can get the correct consistency of foam to concrete, we will have it made!
We are GETTING CLOSER =) and will continue on another day!
