– The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! –

It is my promise to post the bad along with the good. We had some bad this past work weekend. I am certain that we will have more of both along the way. I just hope there is more good than bad in the future. This is new territory for Garnett and I…so, we have A LOT to learn.

Friday, May 27th

We had two very important meetings.

  1. We met with the electric company in the area which is United Cooperative Services. We discussed getting our electricity from the roadside pole onto our property. We have a clear heading on what to do here and were instructed to cut a 30ft easement. We determined that we want the lines to come into the property on the south side running to the shop. We will then run lines to the house and studio from the shop.
  2. We met with a company called Gliddon & Sons Construction Inc. to build the shop. The location has changed three times now…but, we think that we finally have it nailed down to the south property line. This was a huge decision and an important part of the weekend to determine the locations of our structures. We will start with the shop and build a “tiny house” in one end of the shop for us to live in while we are building out my studio and the main house. The guy gave the brilliant suggestion of running the electrical lines down the edge of our property in case we want to fence it off, it would already be cleared. We thought that was a great idea!

This past weekend, we had help. Three days, a lot to do…aannnd this happened.

Our main goal was to cut in the road. Second tree in, MOG blew a tire. We knew the tires were bad and needed replacing. But, we had hoped for a little more time to figure that out. These aren’t your everyday tires and will have to be ordered. Then, there is the task of getting them changed onto the massive rims.  I can’t imagine how much these things weigh! More on this later…

So, we took it in stride and pivoted.

We pulled out the chainsaw and did it old school. We didn’t get near as far as we would have with MOG…but, we tried.

Garnett and Robert made strides in determining where the hydraulic leaks were coming from. This is an important fix because MOG is our heavy lifting power. MOG is crucial to improving the land.

Sunday, May 29th

Day three was spent giving MOG some much needed attention. Garnett took the main (high pressure) hydraulic hose off to replace it. He also took the air regulator off for repair and started a deep dive into the breaks. It is crucial that we get MOG back up and running.

This was Memorial Day weekend…so, we took some time to put up an American Flag. I am forever GRATEFUL to those who SERVE our beautiful country!  YOU make this a FREE country and are among the BRAVEST that I know.  🙏🏻 to the fallen and their families.

…and we installed a buffet for the little birdies.

Until next time… Love, Tam

      1. So it really IS true! If you love what you are doing, it really doesn’t feel like work. 😘

        1. It is true. It still feels like hard work…but when you are working your own land, it is SO worth it! Y’all offer LOTS of encouragement.
