Wild Mountain

– Clearing of the Wild, day 9, Friday –

It’s been two weeks to the day from the start of clearing the Ridgeline on our land and building the shop pad. We had some rain that paused progress a few of those days…..but today, we reached completion.

We collectively have postponed making my studio pad for another month or two. It will be best for me to go to the workshop first (scheduled in October) to gain knowledge on the foundations for these domes. As excited as I was for my studio pad to be done, I know that waiting is the right choice. It is still exciting for me to see the area cleared, ready and waiting.

We must focus on getting the shop/living space done as quickly as possible. We have set a goal to be completely living here by the end of the year. Once that phase is complete, we can then focus on building my studio. Being on property full time will aid in that materializing must faster.

Next steps are: electricity and pouring of the concrete foundation.

The electric company is coming out Tuesday (9/13) to stake the poles…then 10-14 days after that, they will install them. It is looking like we will have electricity by the end of the month! Hallelujah!!!

I’ve been living here for two weeks in our camper van, filling up the generator twice a day. I am grateful for the lights and air conditioning that it provides. However, I will surely be glad when that task is no longer needed. When things run smooth, you feel safe and content. When the generator decides to quit late in the night and you must go out into the darkness to evaluate the issue, that I must say, made me a little uneasy.

I put on my boots, grabbed my gun & lantern and out I went with Garnett on the phone for support. Everything checked out, no lights giving warnings…so, I just started it back up. It seemed okay with no sputtering. She was purring like normal. About midnight, it stopped again. I let it be until morning this time and just switched over to the van generator. Again, grateful to have a backup.

We have had many blessings over the past two weeks with very few issues. Really, the only two issues to speak of was the rain slowing progress (and Lord knows that we needed it, so I am not complaining) and the generator deciding that it just needed a break one night.

So all in all, we have had a great start to making this Wild Mountain our home!

Stay Wild, Tam

  1. You bring the meaning of being an “independent woman” to a whole new level!
…..” I put on my boots, grabbed my gun and went out into the darkness”! ……. LOL!
GIRL….…..….you could teach a class on self reliance! Having Garnett on the phone was simply to say your last goodbyes in case you didn’t make it! Ha!
Hoping you can get that electricity in by the end of the month so there will be no more mid-night adventures/issues on Wild Mountain! Loving your posts!!

    1. Garn and I both literally “laughed out loud” on your comment. You do what you have to do when you have to do it! I am having a blast and I love documenting the process. Like you said, our memories fade. I want to be able to look back on this moment in time. ❤️
