Wild Mountain

– Clearing of the Wild, Day 2, Saturday –

8.27.22 | Today is a Saturday and only the dozer guy worked today. That said, he got a lot done. He mostly did a lot of tidying up: moving trees to piles, moving rocks to piles, packing down the 480 ft easement that they cleared yesterday.

The work on the south side of the ridge started today and he went as far as he could with the dozer. The rest will be done with the smaller excavator as to preserve as many of the rocks as possible. The dozer just obliterates them. They are huge sandstone rocks….but no match for the 20,000 lb dozer.

Before / After on the South bluff side:

South bluff view:

As you can see here… If we want totally clear views, we are going to have to repel the bluff and cut trees from below so the treetops aren’t poking up to block the views. Maybe we will consider that in the winter when the leaves have fallen and the slitherens go into brumation.

South side bluffs

This is as far as he got on the Ridgeline and they will pick back up next week continuing to go on around to the North side.

Emergency Access Road:

We have an emergency access road that runs off the North side at Star Valley. It had eroded terribly bad and had major deep trenches. They were probably 3 ft deep! He took a couple of passes down it with the dozer. It is pretty steep. Much steeper than the pics suggest….so, it really isn’t drivable yet. Eventually, we would love to make this a road. But, that is for another day.

Before / After dozer grade:

Below is the view from the bottom looking upward to the top. If I were to keep walking down, I would end up in the bottom of the valley.

He then turned his attention to digging up massive amounts of dirt from a nearby tank to get ready for the dirt trucks coming in on Monday. The pad for the shop will begin then.

I am excited to see what day three brings! ……stay tuned.

Love, Tam
